What is surprising to us this year is the number and variety of outdoor seating applications in our client designs. Historically, outdoor social and living spaces have been reserved for the backyard, but no longer.
Functional front yards and side yards are hugely in demand in 2022. Our clients not only want spaces to recline and enjoy the view from their front porch, but also patio furniture and dining sets for front yard hardscapes, elevated lawn chairs for side yard fire pit lounges—and more.

This chair in particular is used more often than any other outdoor chair in Yardzen designs and has a more modern boho style, but also works for tropical, desert, or coastal designs.
We love the casual vibe and that the frame is built with FSC ®-certified teak. Although this chair is suitable outdoor use, CB2 sells a cover separately that should be used during inclement weather to keep the chair looking great for years to come.

This contemporary teak outdoor lounge chair isn’t the cheapest on this list, but holy cow is it gorgeous. 7% of Yardzen clients this year are asking for a hanging chair in their landscape design, and this wicker rattan beauty, available at Wayfair, is their favorite (and ours, to be honest). Hanging chairs were once a novelty or reserved for eccentrically designed or overtly bohemian spaces, but we’re seeing them being incorporated in more designs across the contemporary style spectrum.
Although this chair looks laid back, it’s well-constructed and has a 300-pound weight capacity—so it can take some abuse (kids find it irresistible and will pile in). The cushions that come with this chair include a headrest and backrest, making it extremely cozy.
